PITOT TUBE
These are the AN fittings called out in the plans. I machined the wrench flats off both pieces so they would fit in the below hole nicely. The OD of the coupling I turned down to .475. Once the flats on the nipple were machined off, it was slightly smaller than the coupler O.D. I also cut off the bump that was on the tip of the forward piece. I used that wording because if I had used the real term for the forward piece, that sentence would have sounded really bad. You can also see the hole I drilled in the coupler to accept the 1/4 alum tubing. The alum tubing is actually .255 O.D. so you have to dremmel the hole slightly larger. Does this method WORK? Well, I got the idea from Nat and it works on his plane.
I routed a hole through the micro corner to meet the hole I drilled in the side of the coupler. I hadn't done that yet when I took this photo.
Then, I made sure it was going uphill and slipped the 1/4 tubing into the hole I drilled in the coupler. Mixed up some 5 min and let a few drops drip into the hole I had routed out in the micro corner, which locked everything together. I also ordered 2 of the 1/8" pipe plugs. (alum) One to permanently plug the back, and one to temporarily plug the front when the pitot tube is removed. Once the 1/4 tubing was through FO, I cut it about 8 inches long, because I will be installing a T to branch off to the the Automatic Extension Module from Jack Wilhelmson.
