At the factory, the food was NOT good. At least
not something I wanted to eat. So, every day for 3 weeks, at lunchtime, the
factory manager would go fetch Eric and I McDonalds. You can see I look
real excited here with my apple pie and cheeseburger. Notice the Chinese writing
on the Coke can.

This is an example of the
housing provided free of charge to all of the factory workers. Their meals are
provided free of charge also. The save all of the money they earn. (approx 50
cents per hour) After a few years of working in the factory, they return to
their homeland and start their family with their earnings.

Here are OUR wait staff. That's right. I took a
friend to China with me to keep me company and help during my long stay, and
every morning and every night, we ate in this restaurant located inside our
hotel. We don't know why, but we were nearly the only ones in the restaurant at
any given time. These waiters/waitresses were highly trained and the minute you
took your last bite from a particular plate, it was GONE. Noone spoke a single
word of english. The only Chinese we knew was nee how. (hello) But
it wasn't long, and we knew all of "goodnight" , "goodbye", and "thank you".

This is the shaver assembly line. Those black
delrin pieces have pins that contain the shaver cartridge. The first worker
places the first part into the fixture, passes it to the next girl, she puts the
first shaving blade in place, passes it down, so on and so forth. About the
middle of the assy. line, there are small presses with a die installed and an
air cylinder connected and when actuated, the die comes down and seats against
the cartridge and locks everything in place.

These are the bathrooms. There is a continuous
trough running along from stall to stall. No seat. Just stand over the trough!
They had a regular toilet in an office they gave us while we were there. One
time, I was downstairs in the mold shop, and I had to take a leak, so, I went in
this style of bathroom and the factory manager saw me walk out of the bathroom
and he ran up to me and says, "oh, Mr. Jay, we have bathroom for you upstairs"!
Heck, I didn't care.

On the right is my friend Eric that went with me.
We are at a restaurant in a private room complete with our own 27" television
for the sole purpose of KARAOKE! Karaoke is HUGE in China. They LOVE it.
We were on our own for the most part, but one night there was a Chinese guy
our age in our hotel restaurant, and he spoke English. We became friends with
him and he took us all over the place with their friends. What a blast we had!
You can see the glass lazy Susan in the middle of the table. They brought out
course after course after course! The fish was cooked and laid flat and everyone
just reached in to it with their chopsticks. The guy sitting right next to me
ate all the eyeballs out of every fish they brought out. That was his favorite
part he said. Finally the fruit courses started and all the fruit was
intricately carved into some shape or another.

Here is Eric with his "honey" :)

We were even taken to an
amusement park.
